Day 47 - Toward Muxía, with nostalgia already in the air.

20 July

Day notes

Title

Toward Muxía, with nostalgia already in the air.

Where I was / stage

July 20: from Dumbría toward Muxía, with a plan already set to then close on Finisterre.

Key scene

July 20 was a transition day that already contained the whole ending. I was walking toward Muxía with the sensation that the “classic” part of the Camino was now behind me, and that from there on every choice was more free, more personal.

In the group, post-Camino nostalgia was strongly in the air: messages about car returns, airports, memories suddenly resurfacing while reading town signs we had crossed together. It was evident that for everyone that strange phase was starting in which the body is already elsewhere, but the mind is still on the trail.

Meanwhile I was designing my ending: arrive in Muxía the next day, then Finisterre the day after, ideally from km 0.000 to km 0.000, and possibly running. With Carla we discussed exactly this: she gave me practical tips on timing and fog at the sanctuary, and in that moment the plan took concrete shape.

During the day I also heard from Catherine: she was with her family and told me about a very different dimension from mine, more domestic and less free, while I was still immersed in Camino rhythm. At the end of the day it was also beautiful to find familiar faces again: Sara and Renato in the same albergue in Dumbría. In that phase, every familiar encounter had the taste of a small gift.

Sensory detail

Atlantic air getting closer and closer, moving sky, and that coastal light that changes fast and makes you understand you are near the far western edge.

What I understood

In the final days it is not only about “arriving”: it is about how you choose to close the circle, and with what energy you want to carry the whole Camino back home.
