Astorga: day with Andrius and first kiss with Catherine.
July 5: walk to Astorga and evening in town.
On July 5 I walked the whole day with Andrius to Astorga. It was a well-lived stage, with steady pace and chats that made everything lighter.
When I arrived in town, I found Catherine seated at a table drinking a beer with Judith, a French woman Catherine had bonded with a lot and often confided in. I stopped with them to talk for a bit, then went toward the pilgrims’ albergue.
When we were alone, Catherine spoke with a bit of embarrassment but very directly: she had understood she was starting to feel something for me and did not want to continue walking together without clarity, so as not to suffer.
Those words made me very happy. I told her I liked her too, and it was the first time we kissed.
Then we checked in at Albergue de peregrinos de Astorga and moved to the small viewpoint garden nearby: another moment for us, between children joking as they passed in front of us. After that we went to dinner together.
Soft end-of-day light, city noise in the background, cold beer at the table, and the little park wall turned into a small fixed point.
On the Camino some days change direction without warning: you leave thinking only about the stage, you arrive carrying much more.
