Day 22 - Walking at night, dawn, and a community evening in Sanbol.

Day notes

Title

Walking at night, dawn, and a community evening in Sanbol.

Where I was / stage

Night departure from Burgos and a day between Tardajos and Sanbol.

Key scene

During the night walk, around 2:00, a huge sleepiness hit me. Just before Tardajos I found an abandoned trailer, climbed on it with my sleeping bag, and slept for about three hours.

Starting again in the dark, I saw dawn while walking alone: beautiful colors, cool air, silent trail, and that full feeling of being exactly where I wanted to be.

Later I arrived in Sanbol. The albergue was very out of the way, in the middle of the countryside, with lawn, outdoor tables, and a tiny icy pool. I even tried putting my foot in, but it was so cold I could not stay longer than a few seconds.

There was a practical constraint though: the albergue opened at 15:00 and I had arrived much earlier. I managed the day between short breaks, simple food, and waiting for opening, then went back in. That day I also met two pilgrims from Los Angeles and, in the evening, the company widened with people I already knew: Giselle, Carla, Sara, Beatrice, Ananda, and Alicia.

The communal donative dinner was one of the best moments: shared table, paella, and a very human atmosphere.

Sensory detail

The sharp transition between night silence, dawn light, and the slow atmosphere of an albergue in the middle of nowhere.

What I understood

Managing sleep and timing well changes the quality of a stage: it is not only a matter of kilometers.
