Day 18 - Atapuerca, group crossings and plans that align.

Day notes

Title

Atapuerca, group crossings and plans that align.

Where I was / stage

June 21: arrival in Atapuerca with accommodation at Albergue "El Peregrino".

Key scene

I arrived in Atapuerca and stopped at Albergue "El Peregrino." Around 15:00 I exchanged a few words with Catherine: she told me she would go as far as Belorado. Then she told me she had spent the day with the Swiss guy and confirmed he was a very strange type: he had made her feel a bit under pressure because he wanted to stay with her all the time, and she had the impression he was hitting on her.

Around 17:00 I contacted the Italian group to understand where they were. They told me they had stopped in Cardenuela, just before Burgos, and that they would arrive in Burgos the next morning, staying there all day and leaving again on Sunday the 23rd.

For me it was perfect: I was a little behind them and I would also arrive in Burgos the next morning. The Orisson group would also arrive in Belorado, in the same village as Catherine.

Sensory detail

I am liking walking on the trails more and more: wherever you look in the distance you see stretches of pure nature, interrupted only by small villages from time to time. They are like small oases that brighten the Camino, because you know there you can refill water, buy something to eat, or stop for a moment in the shade.

It was also a very long day: I had done about 40 km and felt "like a train." Exactly for that reason, I had already decided to stay two nights in Burgos.

What I understood

On the Camino it is not only where you are that matters, but also where others are: sometimes just a few kilometers of difference are enough to make someone seem very far away, while in reality you might see them again the next day.

Practical note

Night in Atapuerca at Albergue "El Peregrino," with Burgos as the target for the following morning.
