Starting again as a pair and a special mission.
June 18: setting off again together, Catherine and me.
We walked together for practically the whole morning. That day, however, we also had a special mission: recover the package that Ginger had left for me at the reception of the hotel where she had stayed on the night of the 16th.
While we were walking, Catherine and I also had another particular encounter: shortly before reaching Logroño, on the trail, we saw a guy alone sitting on a stone coming out of the embankment. We greeted him, exchanged a few words, then continued on our way leaving him behind.
Once in Logroño we went to Ginger's hotel: I collected the package and around one o'clock Catherine and I had lunch together.
Logroño, however, was not our daily destination: that day we wanted to reach Navarrete. Once there we did groceries and then had dinner each in our own albergue.
At the albergue I found myself sharing a room with a strange guy: I remembered having crossed paths with him the previous morning while I was walking with Matteo, and he had stayed in my mind because he never greeted anyone.
One funny thing is that, for dinner, Catherine and I had bought eggs at the supermarket to cook them in our respective albergues (even though mine did not even have a kitchen, only a microwave oven). Catherine and I had bought two each, but when she opened hers she found a funny surprise: one was empty, without yolk.
Even funnier was when I opened mine: one egg had two yolks. In the end I found myself with 3 yolks using only 2 eggs, as if I had done a little magic trick by taking one yolk from her eggs and adding it to mine xD. I completed dinner with 2 cans of lentils. I love meals made like this: for me they are worth much more than a dinner at a restaurant.
That evening I spent time preparing something for Catherine, because the next day was her birthday. I wanted to do something nice for her, something she could remember.
The plan was to do the Hansel-and-Gretel game again and leave her small gifts along the route of the next day. I spent the whole evening preparing new little shells by cutting beer cans, so that once put together they would form the words "Happy Birthday."
Shortly after midnight everything was already ready and I sent her a message to explain my idea. I was in mission mode again. The next morning a fun day was waiting for me.
A day lived with a shared pace and with a concrete objective to reach.
When you walk with someone, even a small logistical mission can become part of the Camino story.
Morning walk as a pair, with an organized detour to recover the package left by Ginger.
